Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones will direct a new film about James Bond author Ian Fleming.
Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur of K5 Film will produce with PalmStar Media Capital’s Kevin Frakes and Liberty Films’ Stuart Fenegan in association with Jim Young of Animus Films and Robert Laycock of the Ian Fleming Estate.
K5 will handle world sales.
Jones is currently working on casting the film, which is based on Andrew Lycett’s biography Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond. It is the only biographical film to be given the full support of Fleming’s estate.
The story will explore Fleming’s history as a Naval Intelligence Officer who planned secret operations; before he became an author.
“Fleming lived through one of the most perilous periods in world history, in a position that allowed him a unique vantage point of all the players, all the stakes. He witnesses true heroism first-hand. And he saw the evil men could do. Then, when the war ended, he went off to write fiction. The essential question for me is; where did Ian Fleming end and Bond begin?” Jones said in a statement.
“Duncan is one of the hottest directors currently working in film and everyone has been waiting to see what he would do next,” said K5’s Simon and Baur.
Jones is represented by Jay Baker and Maha Dakhil at CAA in the US and Jack Thomas at Independent Talent Group in London.
