Eros pacts with Ocher to produce Rana

Major Indian film studio Eros International is partnering with Ocher Studios to co-produce Rana, a feature to be directed by K. S. Ravikumar and starring cultural icon Rajinikanth.

Ravikumar’s previous directing credits include Muthu and Padayappa, two hit films also featuring Rajinikanth. The star’s last film Robot was a hit released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and grossed approximately $88.8m worldwide. Rana, a live action film with Rajinikanth playing three roles, is also intended to be released in the same three languages.

Slumdog Millionaire composer A. R. Rahman will produce the score, with cinematography by R. Rathnavelu.

The feature is set to start shooting in March and expected to be released in 2012.

Sunil Lulla, executive director at Eros International said: “We are extremely excited to join hands with Tamil industry’s most popular superstar Rajinikanth for Rana and this time audiences will be treated with their favourite actor donning a triple role in the film. Rana is going to be far different from any of the recent Rajni films, a complete live action magnum opus with loads of entertainment for his fans.”

Eros along with Hara Picture Production Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ocher Studios Private Limited, will produce the film through Rana Production Ltd., UK.

The Eros line-up for the year includes highly anticipated films such as Game, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Rockstar, Mausam, Ra.One, Desi Boyz, Agent Vinod and Chalo Dilli.
