Focus Features International has come on board to commence pre-sales in Cannes on the white-hot David Mitchell adaptation to star Tom Hanks. Andy and Lana Wachowski are confirmed to jointly write and direct with Tom Tykwer.

Warner Bros is handling the North American distribution on the project from Anarchos Pictures and Tykwer’s X Filme based on Mitchell’s dazzling multiple-timeline drama.

The Wachowski Brothers’ involvement with Tykwer has been known for several years but this marks official confirmation that they will occupy more than a development role alongside the German auteur (pictured).

Grant Hill and Stefan Arndt will produce the film through their new company Five Drops and Philip Lee serves as executive producer.

Production is scheduled to commence in September. Tykwer has earned wide acclaim for Run Lola Run, Perfume: The Story of A Murderer, The International and the recent Three. The Wachowskis need little introduction as the creators of The Matrix franchise.
