Fox International Productions (FIP) has brokered a deal for the worldwide rights to Everybody Has A Plan starring Viggo Mortensen and Soledad Villamil from the 2010 foreign language Oscar winner The Secret In Their Eyes.
FIP sales chief Shebnem Askin-Schreger will introduce the Spanish-language thriller to buyers in Cannes next week and Fox International will distribute directly in Spain and Argentina.
Ana Piterbarg makes her feature directorial debut on the story of a disillusioned man living in Argentina who assumes the identity of his recently deceased twin and returns to their childhood stomping ground in the Tigre Delta, where he becomes embroiled in his brother’s criminal past.
The film is a co-production between Haddock Films, Tornasol Films, Terz Films and Castafiore Films and reunites Gerardo Herrero, Mariela Besuievsky and Vanessa Ragone, the producing team behind The Secret In Their Eyes.
FIP vp of production Anna Kokourina will oversee production when shooting is scheduled to start this summer in Buenos Aires, El Tigre in Argentina and Ciudad de la Luz in Alicante, Spain.
“I thought The Secret In Their Eyes was one of best Spanish language films of the last few years,” Panitch (pictured) said. “We’ve been pursuing Mariela from the moment it was released, and this is a perfect way to kick off the relationship with this beautifully written thriller, plus an interesting new filmmaker to watch. I would want to watch Viggo Mortensen in any language.”
FIP films in the Cannes market include the festival entry Miss Bala from Canana Films, which Askin-Schreger is handling, and South Korea’s The Yellow Sea directed by Na Hong-Jin, which Judy Ahn at Showbox is selling.
