Open Road Films has released the first image from Oliver Stone’s upcoming drama about NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, seen here as Snowden during his brief service in the US Army before he was discharged.

Snowden is shooting now in Munich and will move to other global locations. The cast includes Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson and Timothy Olyphant.

Open Road and Endgame plan a late awards season December 25 release in the US. Wild Bunch handles international sales and previously licensed German rights to Universum and Japanese rights to Gaga.

Pathe Films developed the project with Stone’s longtime producing partner Moritz Borman and will distribute in France and Benelux.
