Fox International Productions (FIP) and Matthias Schweighoefer’s (pictured) Pantaleon Films will co-produce the romantic comedy What A Man that Schweighoefer will direct and star in.
The film tells of a young teacher dumped by his girlfriend who takes lessons from his best friend in how to become a real man.
Gabriela Bacher brought the project to Fox and will oversee for FIP and work closely with Fox Germany managing director Vincent de La Tour in time for a 2011 release.
“We happily entrust Matthias with his first directing job and we are banking on his impeccable comedic timing and the strong support he enjoys from his producing partners Marco Beckmann and Dan Maag,” Bacher said.
Schweighoefer co-wrote the screenplay with Doron Wisotzky and previously starred in the recent German hit Friendship as well as Rabbit Without Ears I & II.
Pantaleon Films, which is based in Berlin and Frankfurt, is privately funded by entrepreneur Beckmann.
