Twentieth Century Fox has set a June 24, 2011 release for its Planet Of The Apes reboot Rise Of The Apes.

Effects house WETA Digital will use some of the technologies employed on Avatar to create photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors.

Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce for Chernin Entertainment under its new deal with Fox.

Rupert Wyatt, whose credits include The Escapist, is directing from a screenplay by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, who also are producing.

Rise Of The Apes (working title) is an origins story set in contemporary San Francisco where genetic engineering experiments lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
