Wild Bunch Germany, Maestranza Films and Cyber Group Studios have come on board for the 3-D film trilogy adaptated from TV series Genie in the House.
Comedy-adventure Genie in the House, about a family and its bungling genie who are swept up on a fantastical quest, aired for 78 episodes for Nickelodeon and Canal J in 110 territories worldwide from 2006-2010.
Wild Bunch Germany will co-produce and distribute the 3-D trilogy in Germany. Spanish production company Maestranza Films and Paris-based animation specialist Cyber Group Studios have signed on to co-produce alongside lead producers Moi J’aime La Télévision (MJTV) and Helion Pictures.
Cyber Group Studios are also handling international sales rights for the rest of the world with Estelle Lafoy from Happy Audience.
The first film in the trilogy, budgeted by producers at €6m, starts shooting in summer 2011. Managing director of MJTV Phil Ox will produce with his Helion partner Steven Bawol. Grant Cathro and Lee Pressman have written the script
A director will be announced soon. The original cast of Adam Morris, Angus Kennedy, Jordan Metcalfe, Katie Sheridan and Victoria Longley has been signed for all three instalments.
Antonio Perez, CEO Maestranza Film, elaborated on the challenge and the adaptation: “It is a unique proposition, turning a fantastically successful European TV series into a truly cinematic moment in stereoscopic 3D. We will recreate world of Balamkadar using the breathtaking scenery of Andalucia and the south of Spain.”
