Harald Zwart will direct the bestseller adaptation about a young girl in New York who discovers she belongs to a clan of half-angel warriors who must defeat all manner of supernatural creatures.
Production on the project, adapted by Jessica Postigo and I Marlene King from Cassandra Clare’s first book in the series, The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, is scheduled to begin on Aug 15 in Toronto.
Robert Kulzer will produce for Constantin Film and former New Line co-heads Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne will do so for Unique Features. Martin Moszkowicz, Constantin Film’s head of film & TV, will serve as executive producer.
“Lily Collins is the perfect Clary,” Kulzer said. “Harald Zwart really understands the visuals and heart of The Mortal Instruments. That was crucial to us. Of course, having Cassandra Clare’s support throughout and collaborating with her on this project has been especially rewarding.”
