Miramax has delved into the vaults to partner with Dimension on The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes in the first project to go under the partnership with the Weinsteins to make sequels to Miramax properties.
Dimension has acquired rights to a new screenplay for the film by Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands, who will also direct. Shooting is scheduled for this summer in time for a Jan 27, 2012 release.
The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes uses the found footage technique to reveal what happened when an ambitious female television news intern investigates the notorious house.
Jason Blum will produce with La Scala and Farrands and Bob and Harvey Weinstein are serving as executive producers. The Weinstein Company co-chairman Bob Weinstein and Miramax CEO Mike Lang made the announcement during Cannes on Saturday [15].
“We are thrilled to return to the mythology of the Amityville Horror with a new and terrifying vision that will satisfy our existing fans and also introduce an entirely new audience to this popular haunting phenomenon,” Bob Weinstein said.
