Shooting is underway in Colombia on the supernatural thriller Out Of The Dark financed by Participant Media and Image Nation and starring Julia Stiles and Scott Speedman. Colombia’s Dynamo and Spain’s Apaches produce.
Stephen Rea will also star in the project, which began filming this week in Bogota. Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King and Nick Spicer of XYZ Films serve as executive producers. Participant controls worldwide rights and it is understood the project will not go to Cannes.
Spanish filmmaker Lluis Quilez directs from a screenplay by Alex and David Pastor and Javier Gullón about an American couple and their young daughter who relocate to Colombia and move into a haunted house.
“Given Participant’s mission to illuminate important issues, this is not your average ghost story,” said King. “You can be sure that there’s a bigger reason why this takes place at this particular house in the Colombian jungle and to this particular family.”
“We are delighted to once again join Participant Media in bringing this smart story to the screen,” said Image Nation chairman Mohamed Al Mubarak.
“We are excited to be working with Participant to deliver this kind of quality storytelling to Colombia and to take advantage of the spectacular locations and local talent in a way that is authentically international,” said Dynamo’s Cristian Conti.
Apaches partner Belen Atienza added: “Out Of The Dark showcases the talent of Lluis Quilez to give life to frightening stories that go beyond the genre to explore deeper emotions.”
