Screen Gems has acquired Murderball director Dana Adam Shapiro’s civil rights screenplay Holler, based on true events at a high school in Mississippi.
Kristin Hahn will produce through her Echo Films label alongside Tracey Durning. Jennifer Aniston is serving as executive producer with Jeff Mandel.
Holler centres on the experiences of a bi-racial student who is blocked from taking a white date to Prom Night, sparking a fundamental change in the community.
Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper and senior vice-president of production Shannon Gaulding will oversee the project for the studio.
Shapiro is represented by Untitled Management and RWSH Agency.
