Patrick Hughes, currently directing The Expendables 3, will direct the remake of The Raid for Screen Gems.

Brad Ingelsby will write the remake of Gareth Evan’s cult Indonesian martial arts film. XYZ Films is producing the project, having collaborated with Evans on the original (pictured).

Evans himself serves as executive producer and the fight choreographers from the original are also on board to reprise their roles.

The English-language remake tells of a stranded elite DEA Fast Team that must fight their way out of a tenement run by a vicious drug lord.

Screen Gems’ president Clint Culpepper will oversee the project for the studio. Ingelsby previously co-wrote the screenplay for Out Of The Furnace with Scott Cooper.

The Raid 2 recently premiered at Sundance and will open at the end of March. SPC releases the sequel as it did the original.
