Sony Pictures Releasing has come on board for UK rights to comedy-horror Grabbers, which is shooting now. Principal photography is underway in Belfast and Donegal, Ireland, on director Jon Wright’s comedy-horror.
Richard Coyle, Ruth Bradley and Russell Tovey head the cast in screenwriter Kevin Lehane’s story of a rural Irish fishing village attacked by giant squid-like creatures.
The Forward Films production, made in association with Samson Films and High Treason Productions, received backing from the UK Film Council and Irish Film Board. Salt Company is handling sales.
VFX company Nvizible have also partnered on the film. The effects team includes supervisor Paddy Eason (The Golden Compass, Prince of Persia) and creature creator Shaune Harrison (Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows 1 and 2, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace).
Forward Films producers Tracy Brimm and Kate Myers previously teamed with director Wright on 2009 teen horror Tormented.
