Gareth Huw Evans returns to direct his The Raid star Iko Uwais on the project, which will shoot in Indonesia towards the end of the year. Celluloid Nightmares has already closed a slew of territories and SPWA holds US and select territory rights.

Evans will produce through his PT Merantau Films alongside Los Angeles-based XYZ Films. The project bears the working title Berandal for the Indonesian market and will have a “significantly” higher budget than the original.

Sequel rights have gone to Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions for the US, Latin America and Spain, Alliance Group for the UK and Canada, Koch Media for German-speaking territories, Korea Screen for South Korea and HGC for China.

Plot details are being kept secret for the time being, however The Raid centred on en elite team of police officers who must fight their way out of a Jakartan criminal safe house.

The Raid recently received its US premiere in Sundance and will screen at SXSW in March. SPC will release in the US on Mar 23 and Screen Gems is lining up an English-language remake which XYZ will produce.
