Danish-language co-production will shoot this summer for director Simon Staho.
Ulrich Thomsen and Sonja Richter are set to star in romantic drama Flowers of Desire for Irish production company Subotica.
The film will go into pre-production next month and then is set to shoot on location in County Wicklow and County Kerry in June and July.
The Danish-language co-production is written by Simon Staho and Peter Birro and will be directed by Staho.
Thomsen plays a former dancer who returns to his childhood village to attend his mother’s funeral. He discovers that his former sweetheart (Richter) is now in an unhappy marriage with the town priest (Peter Plaughborg) who is charged with the mother’s murder.
Jonas Frederikssen (Open Hearts) will produce with Subotica’s Tristan Orpen Lynch (Song for a Raggy Boy) and Aoife O’Sullivan (The Daisy Chain) and Anagram’s Martin Persson (Forbidden Fruit).
The Irish Film Board is on board as a funder and executive producers include Peter Aalbeek Jensen and Peter Garde of Denmark’s Zentropa.
