Warp Films Australia, here last year with Snowtown, is currently shooting Mark Albiston and Louis Sutherland’s New Zealand feature Shopping. Set in 1981, the story is about a teenage boy seduced by a career criminal.
The duo’s previous short films Run and The Six Dollar Fifty Man won awards in Cannes and Sundance. NZ Film is selling here and has a promo to show buyers. Madman has Australia/NZ rights.
Sarah Shaw and Anna McLeish tell Screen that the company’s slate also includes Ariel Kleiman’s Partisan (going to the Sundance Labs), which is being financed now as an Australia-UK co-production due to shoot in 2013; Snowtown writer Shaun Grant-penned The Scorer; Justin and Jed Kurzel’s Ivan Lendl Never Learnt To Volley, plus another project in development with Justin Kurzel.
Meanwhile, Snowtown director Kurzel is in the UK to prepare for his shoot of John Le Carre adaptation Our Kind of Traitor.
