The Weinstein Company (TWC) has acquired worldwide rights to the epic romance from producers Escape Artists. Jennifer Lawrence is in talks to star.
The true story is based on a screenplay by Argo writer Chris Terrio about Ernest Marland, the oil baron who married his former adopted daughter following the death of his first wife and became Governor of Oklahoma in the early 1930s.
TWC COO David Glasser, president, business and legal affairs Andrew Kramer and vp of business and legal affairs Adrian Lopez negotiated the deal with Escape Artists evp David Bloomfield.
Production head Dylan Sellers and vp of production and business development Julie Rapaport will oversee the film for TWC along with Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and Lance Johnson.
