Studiocanal has revealed that Michael Winterbottom’s Paul Raymond project, starring Steve Coogan, will be released in the UK on 8 March titled The Look of Love.
Coogan plays the ‘King of Soho’ in the biopic of the club and property mogul which, along with his porn business, amassed him a fortune of billions.
Written by Matt Greenhalgh (Nowhere Boy, Control), it also stars Anna Friel, Tamsin Egerton and Imogen Poots.
The film reunites Winterbottom and Coogan following their collaborations on 24 Hour Party People, A Cock & Bull Story and The Trip.
Film4 developed and co-financed the film with Studiocanal co-financing. Studiocanal also owns UK distribution rights and will sell internationally.
Coogan said: “Like 24 Hour Party People, it’s a very British story about an eccentric character at the centre of pivotal events in British culture. I love the film.
“It has that strange combination of comedy and tragedy that Michael Winterbottom manages to pull off with a real deftness of touch.
“Like very few films these days it’s actually about something without being portentous. Oh and there’s lots of naked ladies in it too.”
Melissa Parmenter is producing (Trishna, The Trip), with Film4’s Katherine Butler, Revolution Film’s Andrew Eaton and Studiocanal’s Danny Perkins and Jenny Borgars executive producing.
The Look of Love is a Revolution Films production in association with Baby Cow Productions.
The film is a Studiocanal and Film4 presentation in association with Anton Capital Entertainment, S.C.A. and Lip Sync Productions.
