EXCLUSIVE: Abrahamson’s third feature will premiere in Toronto’s Contemporary World Cinema programme.
London-based sales company Protagonist Pictures has boarded Lenny Abrahamson’s third feature What Richard Did. Protagonist will sell in all territories except the UK and Ireland, where producers Element Pictures retain rights.
The film premieres in Toronto’s Contemporary World Cinema programme.
Element’s Ed Guiney produces and Andrew Lowe executive produces.The Irish Film Board backed the project.
Jack Reynor and Roisin Murphy star alongside Lars Mikkelsen (The Killing).
Malcolm Campbell adapted Kevin Power’s book Bad Day in Blackrock. The story follows a golden-boy Dublin teenager whose world crumbles after a devastating act one summer night.
Abrahamson previously directed the acclaimed Cannes Directors Fortnight selection Garage (2007) and Adam and Paul (2004), which played in Berlin Panorama.
Element, which has several other projects in development with Abrahamson, will release in What Richard Did in Ireland on Oct 6. After branching out into local distribution, Element had a record-breaking hit last year with The Guard.
Protagonist’s slate also includes Kevin Macdonald’s How I Live Now, Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers, and Richard Ayoade’s The Double.
