Romanian filmmaker Lucian Pintilie (The Oak) has been invited to serve as the chairman of the New Currents jury at the 8th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) in South Korea.
A competitive category for first and second-time Asian filmmakers, the New Currents section has in past years recognised the work of Jia Zhangke, Zhang Ming, Park Kiyong, and others.
Joining Pintilie on the jury will be Iranian director Jafar Panahi (The Circle), Miroljub Vackovic of the Yugoslav Film Institute, Taiwanese actress Chen Hsiang-chyi (What Time Is It There'), and Korean producer Shim Jae-myung (A Good Lawyer's Wife).
In addition, the Wide Angle jury for documentaries and independent film will be made up of Lee Yeon-ho, former editor of the recently discontinued film magazine Kino; Jo Young-gak, director of the Seoul Independent Film Festival; and experimental film director Lim Chang-jae (Unborn But Forgotten).
The festival's complete lineup is scheduled to be unveiled on September 2.
