QED International has acquired worldwide rights to The Echo, Vertigo Entertainment and Dark & Stormy Entertainment's English-language remake of the Filipino horror film Sigaw.

Yam Laranas will direct the tale of an ex-con who moves into his recently deceased mother's house and is plagued by supernatural encounters. Casting is underway and the producers are eyeing a late summer start.

Will Wright and Robert Hoff's RightOff Entertainment is fully financing the film. QED International is co-financing and handling international sales here.

Vertigo's Roy Lee and Doug Davison, whose credits include The Ring, The Grudge and The Eye franchises, are producing with Dark & Stormy's Tyler Mitchell, Will Wright and Shintaro Shimosawa.

Robert Hoff, Elliot Ferwerda, QED's senior vice president of sales and distribution Kimberly Fox, and Eric Bernt are serving as executive producers.

'The worldwide success of English language remakes of Asian horror films isn't a flash-in-the-pan trend,' Fox said. 'These films have proven to be solid performers as evidenced by franchises such as The Grudge and The Ring.

Beverly Hills-based QED's Cannes slate includes The Return starring Rachel McAdams and Tim Robbins, Girl In The Park with Sigourney Weaver and Kate Bosworth, and The Hunting Party starring Richard Gere and Terrence Howard.
