Radical Studios has formed a joint venture with China’s Le Vision Pictures to produce “international commercial films with Chinese elements”.

The first project from the new joint venture company – Radical Vision China – is sci-fi actioner The Clans Of Sacred Stones, inspired by ancient Chinese literature. Other projects include Snow Beast and Sun Chaser.

“China has abundant resources of movie entertainment elements and a fast growing market, while Hollywood is at the centre of international film production. This collaboration will provide the world audience with new and exciting experiences,” said Le Vision CEO Zhang Zhao.

The venture was announced at Le Vision’s annual summit at the Beijing International Film Festival, during which the rising Chinese company unveiled its 2013 slate, marketing strategies and other collaborations with US partners.

Zhao also announced Le Vision’s cooperation with US partners for projects including Expendables 3 and Automata; the launch of marketing services for US studio films in China; and a Chinese merchandising division. Former Disney International vice president Michael Andreen is acting as a consultant for Le Vision’s LA office. 

Le Vision successful handled the local release of Expendables 2, which grossed $53m in China, and is working with Nu-Image/Millennium on the third installment. The Beijing-based company is also working with Tarak Ben Ammar’s Quinta Communications on Automata, starring and co-produced by Antonio Banderas.

Barry Levine and Jesse Berger’s Radical Studios was one of the production companies on Tom Cruise vehicle Oblivion and is in the process of beginning production on Hercules for MGM.
