Rajkummar Rao has been cast in Nikhil Mahajan’s Daily (Dainik), which was selected for this year’s NFDC Screenwriters’ Lab.  

The film will be co-produced by Suhrud Godbole’s IME Motion Pictures and Mahajan’s Blue Drop. Rajkummar has previously starred in films such as Hansal Mehta’s Shahid and Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che.

Daily will mark the first Hindi-language film for Mahajan and Godbole, who earlier collaborated on Marathi film Pune 52.

Mahajan’s Blue Drop will also produce Varun Grover’s Mother Goddess Coaching Class, which also took part in this year’s NFDC Screenwriters’ Lab.

“I met Varun in Toronto during the first session of Screenwriters’ Lab and I liked his script instantly,” said Mahajan. “It’s a very relatable, slice-of-life comedy and I thought why not produce a film that I can’t make myself.”
