UTV Motion Pictures has sold German rights to Kiran Rao’s Mumbai Diaries (Dhobi Ghat) to Rapid Eye Movies.
Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.
The deal includes theatrical, home video and free-TV rights and Rapid Eye plans to give the film a theatrical release in Germany later this year.
“We are excited to work with Kiran Rao who has made a beautiful and touching film about life in Mumbai and we believe it will touch the hearts of German audiences. It is truly a pleasure to work with Aamir Khan Productions and UTV Motion Pictures,” said Rapid Eye’s Stephan Holl.
Aamir Khan, the producer and star of the film, is currently on the jury at the Berlin Film Festival. UTV’s 7 Khoon Maaf, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, is receiving its world premiere in the Panorama Special section of Berlin today.
