Disney releasing Zootropolis on March 25, 2016 means it opens against Batman Vs. Superman and maybe Beverly Hills Cop a week after Kung Fu Panda 3.

Distributors used to a lot mega-movies weekends to themselves but in recent years rival studios are opening a mega-movie against another in the belief that it will expand the marketplace. But it never happens just cause’s box office cannibalization.

Last summer Maleficent opened against Edge of Tomorrow both received good reviews but Maleficent opened with £6.59m (still far less than 2010's Alice in Wonderland)
While Edge of Tomorrow had one of Tom Cruise's worst openings taking £1.85m.

There have been many more of these battles ending up with one opening well but not as big as it could have done without mega-movie competition. While the other disappoints; this will happen a lot this summer as will many films open big but then drop big as next mega-movie opens

Whilst Fast & Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron both have 3 weeks without major competition at the box office the rest of the summer films have a week before they are hit with another mega-movie opening.
