Brian O’Shea’s The Exchange has acquired international sales rights to David France’s Sundance documentary and Berlin Panorma selection Welcome To Chechnya.
HBO is the North American distributor of the highly regarded film, one of the stand-out titles in Park City that chronicles the current anti-LGBTQ persecution raging in the Russian republic of Chechnya.
France shadows the LGBTQ activists who risk their lives to rescue victims from a targeted campaign of torture and brutality.
HBO is the North American distributor on Welcome To Chechnya, a Public Square Films production produced by Alice Henty and Askold Kurov. The executive producer is Joy A. Tomchin.
Tyler H. Walk won the 2020 Sundance Film Festival Documentary Film Editing Award for his work on the film, which premiered in the U.S Documentary Competition strand.
“The Exchange is very proud to represent the international rights to this powerful and timely documentary,” said The Exchange CEO O’Shea. “The film not only sends out an important call to action to the world, but also delivers that message in such an engaging way that its commercial potential is undeniable.”
The Exchange negotiated the deal with Submarine on behalf of the filmmakers.
O’Shea’s EFM line-up includes Peter Dinklage, Noomi Rapace, Sophia Lillis in The Thicket; Anna Faris in Summer Madness; Zoe Saldana in Key Hole Garden; SXSW Midnighter selection The Toll; Bruce Willis in Cosmic Sin; and Thomas Jane, Alex Pettyfer, Charlotte Le Bon, Alice Eve, Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Warning.
