Cannes favourites The White Ribbon and A Prophet and last year’s Oscar sensation Slumdog Millionaire both figure prominently in the 22nd European Film Awards nominations, which were announced this weekend.

All three have received nods as “European Film 2009” alongside Fish Tank, Let The Right One In and The Reader.

The films’ directors, Michael Haneke, Jacques Audiard and Danny Boyle have all also received “Best Director” nominations.

Meanwhile, Haneke, Audiard alongside his cowriter on A Prophet Thomas Bidegain, and Slumdog scribe Simon Beaufoy  are also in the running for the European Screenwriter award.

Revered auteurs Pedro Almodovar (Broken Embraces) and Lars Von Trier (Antichrist) have also secured “European  Director” nominations.

Andrea Arnold’s Fish Tank was also a key nominee with film, director and actress nominations.

The European Film Awards will take place in Germany’s Ruhr area on Saturday, 12 December.
