Top brass at the 56th San Francisco International Film Festival handed out their juried Golden Gate awards, New Directors Prize and FIPRESCI Prize and more than $70,000 in awards on Wednesday night [8].
Kalyanee Mam’s A River Changes Course (pictured, Cambodia-US) won the Golden Gate Award Documentary feature and a $20,000 cash prize
The Kill Team (US) by Dan Krauss won the Bay Area Documentary Feature award and a $15,000 cash prize.
The New Directors Prize went to Present Tense (Turkey) by Belmin Sölyemez who collected a $15,000 cash prize. The FIPRESCI Prize went to Nights With Theodore (France) by Sébastian Betbeder.
In the Golden Gate Award Short Film categories, Michelle Savill’s Ellen Is leaving (New Zealand 2012) won the narrative category and a $5,000 prize, Sari Gilman’s Kings Point (US) won the documentary prize and a $5,000 award and Kali The Little Vampire (Canada-France) by Regina Pessoa took the animation award and a $2,000 prize.
First prize and $2,000 in the Bay Area Short category went to 3020 Laguna St In Exitum (US) by Ashley Rodholm and Joe Picard, while Alfredo Covelli prevailed in the New Visions section with Salmon (Israel-Italy) and a $1,500 award.
The Family Film prize and $1,500 went to Luminaris (Argentina) by Juan Pablo Zaramella and the Youth Work award and $1,500 was presented to Lance Oppenheim’s The Dogmatic (US).
The 56th San Francisco International Film Festival ran from Apr 25–May 9.
