Roadside Attractions has acquired all US rights to Mitchell Lichtenstein’s family comedy Happy Tears, starring Parker Posey, Demi Moore, Ellen Barkin and Rip Torn.
The film premiered in Berlin and marks Lichtenstein’s follow-up to his 2007 Sundance entry Teeth, also releaed by Roadside.
Roadside plans a release in the first quarter of 2010, with Lionsgate set to handle home entertainment and otherancillary rights. Inferno Entertainment is selling foreign sales here.
Posey and Moore play sisters who learn how to improve their lives while attempting to look after their firebrand father.
“We’re very excited to be releasing this film and to be working with Mitchell again,” Roadside Attractions co-president Howard Cohen said. “These are two larger than life performances from Parker Posey and Demi Moore as sisters who have a love-hate relationship.”
Lichtenstein added: “This is a tough time for independent film, and I believe that the team at Roadside Attractions knows how to find an enthusiastic audience for this funny, offbeat movie,”
Cohen negotiated the deal with Bart Walker and Victoria Cook for Cinetic Media.
