Roadside Attractions and Samuel Goldwyn Films have jointlyacquired North American rights to Susan Seidelman's romantic comedy BoyntonBeach Club.
Based on a story by Seidelman's 74-year-old mother Florence, BoyntonBeach Club follows agroup of grieving senior citizens who re-enter the dating game.
Dyan Cannon, Brenda Vaccaro, Joseph Bologna, Renee Taylor, SallyKellerman, Len Cariou, Michael Nouri and Mal Z Lawrence star.
The picture played at the Hamptons, Sarasota and Palm Springs filmfestivals and was initially self-distributed in South Florida and Palm Springs.To date it has grossed $635,000.
Roadside Attractions and Samuel Goldwyn Films plan a nationwideexpansion in July.
"We felt there was a large, underserved, older movie-goingaudience who would appreciate a romantic comedy that reflected their lifeexperiences in a contemporary way", Seidelman said.
"We really wanted to avoid geriatric stereotypes. This is amovie about looking for love and companionship and we hoped it would appeal to30-year-olds, as well as to 60-year-olds".
Roadside Attractions co-president Howard Cohen and Samuel GoldwynFilms president Meyer Gottlieb negotiated the deal with Seidelman. Seidelmanco-wrote the screenplay with Shelly Gitlow and produced with her mother. DeborahVan Eck and Blair Rosenfeld served as executive producers.
