The International Film Festival Rotterdam has announced several themed programmes for its 42nd edition.
The Signals programmes will be devoted to German director Dominik Graf, as well as to current Iranian filmmaking and to film as an auditory experience.
Dominik Graf is a German filmmaker who worked frequently for German television, on series such as Der Fahnder and Tatort. Rotterdam’s programme is the first extensive retrospective of his work outside of Germany.
Inside Iran will reflect the current situations inside Iranian film including features Parviz by Majid Barzegar and Modest Reception by Mani Haghighi. There will also be video art and shorts made in Teheran. Conferences and discussions are also planned.
The Sound Stages programme will be about the auditory experience and the acoustics of different screening venues. There will be several sonic locations around Rotterdam that will be used for screenings of works from the like of Mika Taanila, John Akomfrah and Tony Cokes.

The festival will kick off on Jan 23 and runs thorugh Feb 3.
