CineMart, the Rotterdam film festival’s international co-production market, has selected 33 projects for its 27th edition, which will run January 31 to February 3.
The successful projects include several projects by competitors from the Rotterdam’s Tiger Awards such as Costa Rican director Paz Fabrega, who is competing at the festival with her debut feature Agua Fria De Mar and presenting her second film, Todos Nostros, at CineMart. Thai director Anoucha Suwichakornpong is also competing with her debut, Mundane History, but will be presenting her second project By The Time It Gets Dark.
Pia Marais, who won a Tiger Award in 2007 for her debut film The Unpolished (Die Unerzogenen), is returning to present her new film Layla Fourie, while continuing its focus on cross-media projects CineMart has also selected Simon Pummell’s project, Brand New-U. His previous film, Bodysong, premiered at Rotterdam in 2003.
Marit van den Elshout, head of CineMart, said: “Our aim is to select projects close to the heart of Rotterdam as well as with good market potential. We believe it is a focused yet eclectic selection that will cater to the different needs of the professionals attending Rotterdam.
