Hong Kong production outfit Salon Films has established Singapore-based SIMF Management Pte Ltd which aims to raise an integrated media fund of SG$100m in partnership with the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore. Fred Wong, chairman of Salon Films, will serve as director of SIMF.
SIMF will partner with two Singapore-based companies: Widescreen Media Pte Ltd, which specialises in Stereoscopic 3D productions and recently worked on Amphibious 3D, as well as with CGI and post-production company Iceberg Design Pte Ltd,. Projects managed by SIMF will work with the two companies for stereoscopic 3D production and post-production works. “SIMF will partner with other production companies in future from Hong Kong, China and Japan,” said Wong.
“Now the time has come that we see the convergence of film finance and new technology,” said Wong, who added that the main reason to first partner with the two Singaporean companies was because of their productions in Greater China. “Now that film companies from the whole world want develop their business in China and we think productions in Greater China will be our priority.”
SIMF is now looking for Asian-wide projects but also welcomes international film projects.
