EXCLUSIVE: Simon Crowe’s SC Films International has taken on international sales for A Liar’s Autobiography – The Untrue Story of Monty Python’s Graham Chapman.
SC will introduce the animated 3D film to buyers at Cannes.
The film is based on the memoir of Chapman, the late member of the Monty Python troupe. It is now in post.
A Liar’s Autobiography uses recently discovered audio tapes of Chapman to create the narration, along with new recordings of Pythons John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, who play themselves and other characters.
Bill Jones, Ben Timlett and Jeff Simpson direct the film, which mixes the styles of 15 different international animation companies.
Producers are Bill and Ben Productions, Trinity Films, Brainstorm Media and Epix. Trinity will release in the UK and Brainstorm will release in the US. Executive producers are Mark Sandell of Trinity and Meyer Shwarzstein of Brainstorm.
“As a member of Monty Python, Graham had fans all over the world,” said co-director Jeff Simpson. “And although this is a Graham Chapman film rather than a Monty Python film, we know that there’ll be a big audience out there A Liar’s Autobiography. Graham would love the idea of his book being re-imagined as a 3D film – he always loved wearing silly glasses.”
“I’m so excited to be involved with Liar’s,” said Simon Crowe, CEO of SC Films International. “Anyone who’s loved Python’s comic genius over the years will want to watch this film. It’s absurd and yet brilliant!”
Sandell added: “We are delighted to be working with SC Films on this project. Simon’s passion and huge enthusiasm mirrors that of our own and we feel confident that Graham Chapman is in very good hands.”
SC Films’ slate also includes Cockneys Vs Zombies, When The Lights Went Out and Outback.
