Following months of speculation United International Pictures (UIP) has confirmed that it will handle all theatrical distribution of Scanbox Entertainment films in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
The deal, effective from Jan15, was prompted by Scanbox's desire to cut down its activities. Scanbox CEO Jorgen Kristiansen said: "the distribution know-how of UIP will enable us to achieve the best possible theatrical platform for our top quality slate". UIP's Danish head Michael Berg called the deal: "a perfect match, and a welcome opportunity to handle local titles alongside European and US pictures".
Among upcoming Scanbox titles to be handled by UIP are The Cider House Rules and The Talented Mr. Ripley, as well as Danish features Mirakel And Cirkeline 2. The deal is a welcome one for UIP which is losing distribution of MGM titles to Fox (Constantin Films) and follows Warner Scandinavia's decision last year to funnel its product through Nordic major Sandrew Metronome.
