Filmmaker MartinScorsese's new film series, The Blues, will makes its world premiere at the 32nd MontrealInternational Festival of New Cinema and New Media (FCMM), Oct 9 -19.
Produced by Scorsese,directed by noted filmmakers from Wim Wenders to Clint Eastwood, the seriesfeatures seven distinct films meant to capture the essence of the music formand its influence on listeners around the world.
They are: Feel Like GoingHome, directed by Scorsese; TheSoul Of A Man, directed by WimWenders (Buena Vista Social Club,Wings of Desire); The Road ToMemphis, directed by Richard Pierce (TheLong Walk Home, Leap of Faith); Warming By The Devil's Fire, directed by Charles Burnett (Killer of Sheep, My Brother's Wedding); Godfathers And Sons, directed by Marc Levin (Slam, Brooklyn Babylon); Red, White And Blues directed by Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas, Timecode); and Piano Blues,directed by Clint Eastwood(Bird, Unforgiven).
In a statement, Scorsesesaid, 'All of these directors share a passion for the blues. The idea ofdifferent perspectives from filmmakers who love the music seemed like the rightway to approach such personal and evocative music. Out of seven films, alltogether, the audience will ideally come away with the essence of the music- the spirit of it rather than just plain facts.
Scorsese is currently basedin Montreal where he is shooting his epic Howard Hughes project The Aviator starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett.
