Spanish short The Cause Of The Accident That Set The Fire has been presented to the international industry at this year’s American Film Market (AFM, November 5-10).
Watch it below.
The short, which premiered at San Sebastian and also screened at Mipcom, is directed by Lope Serrano and aims to showcase the talent, creativity, and expertise of the Spanish film industry, as part of ICEX’s ‘Spain, where talent ignites’ programme at the AFM.
The film is produced by ICEX and filmmaking collective Canada, and focuses on a young director going through a creative crisis during the filming of the movie she’s directing. It stars Berta Prieto and Goya award winner Barbara Lennie, and also features guest appearances from Emila Perez star Karla Sofía Gascón and internationally renowned filmmakers Albert Serra and JA Bayona.
Elisa Carbonell, chief executive officer ICEX, said: “This campaign aims to help build an image associated with the country, highlighting the cross-sectoral nature, diversity, and richness of its creativity. Talent exists in every country, but it’s not always valued equally. Our goal is to place talent at the forefront.”
Other Spanish industry activities at AFM include a keynote from Cristóbal García, who produced Spain’s 2025 Oscar submission Saturn Return.
