The San Francisco Film Society on Tuesday [Apr 2] announced the full line-up of films and events set to run at the 56th San Francisco International Film Festival from Apr 25-May 9.
The line-up includes A Hijacking, The East, Salma, Thérèse and You’re Next and acclaimed documentaries such as Twenty Feet From Stardom [pictured], The Act Of Killing and After Tiller.
As previously announced, What Maisie Knew and Before Midnight bookend the event while the centerpiece screening is Inequality For All. Steven Soderbergh will give the state of cinema address.
Film historian, author and director Peter von Bagh will collect the Mel Novikoff Award for his lifelong work and commitment to international film.
The 2013 Founder’s Directing Award will go to Philip Kaufman, who will receive a tribute and screening of his 1978 film Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
Jem Cohen will receive the Golden Gate Persistence Of Vision Award and will attend a screening of his latest film Museum Hours.
Other events include the inaugural A2E: Artist To Entrepreneur, a four-day lab for digital film-makers with the support of Screen Australia, Sundance Institute, IFP, Film Independent, Cinereach, BritDoc and the Bertha Foundation. The lab has invited projects from BFI, Film London, Frameline and the Canadian Film Center.
