Vietnam Media Corp has secured financing from Singapore’s Mega Media for its upcoming drama The Immense Floating Life, which is set to be one of Vietnam’s biggest productions in 2010.
Mega Media will provide 20% of the financing for the film to be directed by Nguyen Phan Quang Binh. The Singapore media company also co-financed award-winning drama Song Of The Stork (2002), which Nguyen co-directed with Mega Media managing director Jonathan Foo.
The Immense Floating Life is scheduled start shooting on Nov 26. The film is based on Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tu’s short story Boundless Rice Field, which won this year’s ASEAN Literature Prize. International sales are handled by Vietnam Media Corp/BHD.
Nguyen also executive produced The White Silk Dress, winner of the audience award at the Pusan film festival in 2007, Every Inch Of Beauty and The Bright Kisses, which are among the top five highest-grossing local movies in Vietnam of all time.
“I am extremely excited to be working with Binh once again after seven years. I believe that The Immense Floating Life will change both the way we look at Vietnamese film, as well as the way we look at ourselves,” said Foo.
Foo will serve as executive producer on the film together with Vietnam Media’s Ngo Thi Bich Hanh.
