Jaro Vajtek’s documentary has been chosen as Slovakia’s foreign oscar selection.
The Slovak Film and Television Academy has chosen Jaro Vojtek’s Rotterdam title The Border as its submission to the foreign-language Oscar race.
The Border examines the lives of residents of a village divided by a post-war border between Slovakia and Ukraine. Built overnight, the border divided what was once a single community into two separate worlds.
The Border had its world premiere at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival in 2009, where it was named Best East European Documentary. It later screened in Rotterdam’s Spectrum selection.
The Slovak academy has also nominated The Border for the European Film Academy Documentary Award.
