Spain 's Sogepaq has taken on international sales, outside Mexico and North America, for actor Gael Garcia Bernal's directorial debut Deficit.

Bernal's Mexico-based production outfit Canana Films produced Deficit, which had its world premiere during Cannes Critics Week.

The film will also screen in Toronto's Vanguard section, where Sogepaq will start sales.

Bernal himself stars in the story of a Mexican snob whose weekend pool party disguises a loss of innocence and political awakening.

Endeavor Independent is handling North American rights.
