Song Of Siren wins top prize at Golden Horse FTPP

The Song Of Siren, which is Shen’s first feature film, is being produced by Taipei-based Flash Forward Entertainment, which also produced Shen’s recent documentary Baseball Boys. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Malaysian Chinese novelist Zhang Guixing, the $650,000 film is coming-of-age love story set in the rainforest. The project also won a post-production award from Taipei-based Modern Cinema Laboratory, worth $6,000 (NT$200,000) in post-production services.

Tsai’s Black And White, the film version of the Taiwanese TV drama of the same name, won post-producution service prizes from Taipei Post-production and Leader Asia Pacific Creativity Center. The $3.8m action film revolves around two cops working together to bring down a multinational organised crime gang. It’s being produced by Double Edge Entertainment and will likely be set up as a Taiwan-China co-production. During the three-day FTPP, the project attracted interest from China Film Group and Beijing-based Asian Union.

Sky Silence, which is set in a Taiwanese air force base and revolves around a repair man’s encounter with an autistic girl, took post-production service prizes from Arrow Film Production, worth $6,000 (NT$200,000), Taipei Postproduction, worth $3,000 (NT$100,000) and the Kodak prize which offers 6,000 feet of film.

Illumination, a drama by Yao Hung-I and Liang Ching-sheng to be shot entirely with a 3D camera, won the post-production service prize of sound engineering company 3H Sound Studio.

FTPP, which is the projects market section of the Golden Horse Film Festival, featured 25 projects from Taiwan, mainland China, Israel and France. More then 270 meetings were held during the three-day session, double the amount of meetings held last year.
