Sony Pictures Classics has beaten out other bidders and picked up North American and Australian rights to Every Little Step hot on the heels of the documentary's world premiere at Toronto. Click here to see review.

Endgame Entertainment served as majority financier and produced the project, which traces performers as they audition for the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line and charts the show's status in modern theatre culture. Endgame chief Jim Stern co-directed with Adam Del Deo.

Every Little Step had been in play as soon as it premiered in Canada last week. Executive producer John Breglio hatched the idea three years ago with Rena Ronson of William Morris Independent. Originally the plan was to create a reality TV show but Breglio, who is also the attorney to show creator Michael Bennett's estate, wanted to make a feature documentary.

After early interest from HBO, Breglio and WMA took the idea to Stern, whom Breglio knew from his days in theatre. Shochiku acquired Japanese rights shortly before the film's world premiere on September 6 and will release in Japan on October 25.

It is understood Sony Pictures Classics will release the film in 2009.
