Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired rights to North America and several other significant territories to Handmade's US-based remake of British gangland classic The Long Good Friday.
Screen International revealed last week that the Classic UK gangster film The Long Good Friday is to be re-made, it was confirmed in Cannes, with the action shifting to Miami.
Handmade Films and Impact Pictures are partnering on the $50m project, written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.
Co-producers will be Patrick Meehan for HandMade Films and Jeremy Bolt for Impact Pictures.
In addition to the Sony deal, Handmade has also struck deals with Poland (Vision), Greece (Odeon), Portugal (Lusomundo), Thailand (M Films) Indonesia (PT Amero), Brazil (Iamgem), CIS (Paradise), Czech/Hungary (Intersonic) Former Yugoslavia (VTI), Romania (Odeon), Middle East ECS) and Turkey (FIDA.)
