Sony Pictures Spain has picked up Spanish distribution rights to renowned director Manuel Gomez Pereira's romantic drama El Juego Del Ahorcado.
Based on the novel by Imma Turbau, El Juego tells the story of a young boy and girl, Sandra (Clara Lago)and David (Alvaro Cervantes), who fall in love with each other, but are torn apart by a terrible secret. Spain's El Amigo De Lenon co-produces alongside Ireland's Subotica Entertainment.
Sony will release the film in Spanish theatres on January 23.
Pereira has received widespread acclaim for his films on the festival and awards circuit, including All Men Are The Same (Todos Los Hombres Sois Iguales), which picked up a Goya award in 1995, Cosas Que Hacen Que La Vida Valga La Pena, a best feature winner at Malaga in 2004 and Between Your Legs (Entre Las Piernas), which was in competition at Berlin in 1999.
