The film is the most successful self-distributed film to be released in UK theatres, taking more than $150, 000 (£80,000) at the box office.
It was released through The Really Honest Little Distribution Company, a company set up by Blum and Suran Goonatilake, an executive producer on the film.
Ed Blum said 'we turned down offers from several distributors so we could establish a new model of theatrical distribution in the UK. It has worked fantastically well, and I'm delighted that Sony Pictures has now come on board for the UK DVD rights."
The film was shot on a budget of just under $500,000 (£260,000.)
