German independent distributor SquareOne Entertainment hasacquired five new high-profile films to boost its theatrical slate:
* Roland Joffe's Mark Damon-produced intense thriller Captivity,from a script by Larry Cohen and starring Elisha Cuthbert, Daniel Gillies,Pruitt Taylor Vince and Michael Harney;
* Daniel Myrick's horror film Solstice, produced byEndgame Entertainment and starring Shawn Ashmore, Elisabeth Harnois, TylerHoechlin, Amanda Seyfried and Hilarie Burton;
* 2929 Entertainment's horror-thriller Prey, directedby John Stockwell from a script by Michael Ross and with a cast including JoshDuhamel, Melissa George, Olivia Wilde and Desmond Askew. (Prey will bethe first release of Twentieth Century Fox's new young-adult genre division,Fox Atomic, in the US).
* Anthony Waller's supernatural horror Nine Miles Down,starring Melissa George, which is currently shooting in Namibia;
* Craig Singer's horror/thriller Dark Ride, starringJamie-Lynn Sigler, which is being handled internationally by Arclight Films andwill be released in the US by Lionsgate.
"We've had tremendous success in the marketplace withthese genres," said SquareOne President Al Munteanu.
"These films are a perfect fit within our existingbusiness and right in line with our ongoing acquisitions strategy. This isevidenced by [Neil Marshall's horror thriller] The Descent being number one onthe video rental charts in Germany for four weeks in a row now."
