Steven O’Dell has been named Senior Vice President, International Distribution for Sony Pictures Releasing International.
The promotion was announced by Mark Zucker, president of Sony Pictures Releasing Corporation. O’Dell, who joined Sony as a vice president in 2005, will continue to report to Zucker.
In the new role, O’Dell will add Spain, Portugal and Scandinavia to the regions he oversees. (His patch will continue to include Latin America and the Caribbean.)
Zucker said: “Steven’s direct experience in managing territories provided him the tools to be an excellent distribution executive. His energy and focused approach have contributed in a big way to the success of our movies in the territories where he oversees distribution. I’m pleased to recognize his contribution with this well-deserved promotion, and look forward to continued success as he expands his horizons.”
O’Dell’s recent work includes SPRI’s launches of Angels & Demons and Terminator Salvation in Latin America and the Caribbean. He has also worked on past hits including Casino Royale, Spider-Man 3, The Da Vinci Code and Open Season.
Prior to joining Sony, O’Dell started working in 1994 with United International Pictures (UIP) overseeing Central America and the Caribbean. He held management posts for UIP in Chile, Austria, Brazil and Mexico. He returned to the US in 2001 to join consultancy Nadia Bronson & Associates, and joined Sony in 2005.
