"'It is an audience pleaser - the kind of film that has a long life. We keep doing sales (on Honeydripper) at market after market,"' Rezo's Head Of International Sales, Sebastien Chesneau, commented of the deal.
Honeydripper, which had its world premiere in Toronto last September, has screened at several other festivals, including San Sebastian and London. Earlier this week, Axiom Films confirmed that it will be releasing the film across the UK and Ireland on May 9.
A drama set in 1950, Honeydripper is set over a make or break weekend for Tyrone Purvis (Danny Glover), the proprietor of the Honeydripper Lounge. Deep in debt, Tyrone is desperate to bring back the crowds that used to come to his place. He decides to lay off his long-time blues singer Bertha Mae, and announces that he's hired a famous guitar player, Guitar Sam, for a one night only gig in order to save the club. When Tyron's ace-in-the-hole fails to materialise at the train station, he pins his hopes instead on Sonny, a young vagrant passing through town.
